Can States’ Front-line Experiences Expedite Broadband Deployment?

• Karen Jackson, Office of Telework Promotion and Broadband Assistance, Commonwealth of Virginia

Karen Jackson is Vice President of Broadband Programs for the Center for Innovative Technology. She supports public and private entities within Virginia to enhance the deployment of, and access to competitively priced, broadband. Jackson advocates for applications, programs and services including telework, telemedicine and e-learning. She also serves as the Director of the Commonwealth’s Office of Telework Promotion and Broadband Assistance, a clearinghouse and coordination point for related services and programs in the Commonwealth. She holds a bachelor's of science in business management at Christopher Newport University and a master's of business administration from The College of William and Mary.

• Betty Ann Kane, Chairman, D.C. Public Service Commission

Betty Ann Kane was confirmed by the Council as Chairman of the Public Service Commission, effective March 3, 2009.  She has served as a Commissioner since March 2007. Before joining the PSC, Chairman Kane served as a Trustee and Executive Director of the District of Columbia Retirement Board.  She served two terms on the D.C. Board of Education, and was a three-term member of the City Council. Kane is a member of the Telecommunications Committee of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners. She is a graduate of Middlebury College in Vermont and has a Masters Degree in English from Yale University.

• Graham Richard, Former Mayor, Fort Wayne, Indiana NEWLY ADDED! (4/13)

Graham Richard brought his expertise in politics and best business practices to city government he became mayor of the second-largest city in Indiana: Fort Wayne. A former Indiana state senator and business entrepreneur, Richard focused the Fort Wayne city government into a results-producing, customer-focused city during his two terms – saving more than $31 million while improving city services.  He received the Fiber-to-the-Home Council's 2005 Star Award for being a leader in broadband technology, and is the author of Performance is the Best Politics.  Richard is a graduate of the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University.

• Sue A. Suleski, Technology Investment Specialist and Program Manager for the Pennsylvania Broadband Initiative

Sue A. Suleski, with the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, Technology Investment Office, has a mission to serve as a catalyst for growth and competitiveness for Pennsylvania companies and universities through technology-based economic development initiatives including funding, partnerships, and support services. Suleski manages a variety of state technology-based economic development programs focused on broadband deployment, technology development, business assistance, and workforce leadership. As program manager of the Pennsylvania Broadband Initiative, Suleski oversees a portfolio of programs aimed at mapping broadband coverage, educating constituents on the benefits and use of broadband, aggregating demand, and attracting and retaining businesses to Pennsylvania.

The event will be moderated by Drew Clark, Editor and Executive Director of BroadbandCensus.com.
